Micron invests $40 billion in microchip manufacturing in the US

by time news

Micron Technology announced its intention to invest $40 billion by 2030 in the production of semiconductors in the United States.

The company notes that the amount is part of the $150 billion global investment Micron announced last year. And the statement itself is connected with the upcoming signing of the bill on chips and science by US President Joe Biden. It involves, among other things, the allocation of $ 52 billion for the development of the semiconductor industry in the United States. Producers will receive these funds in the form of tax breaks and grants.

Micron predicts that the investment will help create 40,000 new jobs in the US. The production itself at the new plants should begin after 2025.

Earlier, the company noted that demand for semiconductors in general in the world will soon begin to decline, and initial forecasts for demand growth turned out to be overstated. Based on this, Micron announced a review of its investment strategy in semiconductor manufacturing. The company intends to focus primarily on the production of high-tech microchips that are used in cars, data processing centers, as well as in the creation of artificial intelligence.
