Microosft Corporation announced that it has fixed an issue where users of Windows 10 and some Intel processors could not update to the latest version of the OS. This was reported by the publication BleepingComputer, Day.Az reports with reference to Lenta.ru.

The bug prevented Windows 10 from being upgraded to 11 if the consumer was using a computer based on an 11th generation Intel Core processor with Intel Smart Sound Technology audio drivers. When trying to update the system, a critical error appeared that blocked the installation.

Microsoft first acknowledged the bug in November 2021. Thus, the company’s specialists were unable to fix the problem for more than two years. In September 2022, the corporation’s engineers made changes to Windows, prohibiting the update procedure on such devices.

In the spring of 2024, Intel and Microsoft specialists found a way to solve the problem. For computers based on 11th generation Intel chips, the Intel Smart Sound Technology driver 10.30.00.5714 has been released. Users were asked to install the new software on their computers and complete the upgrade process to Windows 11.
