American corporation Microsoft announcedthat the Cortana voice assistant is no longer supported on Windows operating systems as a standalone application. Users attempting to launch the virtual assistant will be shown an outdated app message.

The company plans to turn off Cortana for Teams in the fall of 2023, while you can also use the voice assistant through Outlook Mobile. The company is going to replace Cortana with the Windows Copilot tool, which is a full-fledged AI assistant.

The voice assistant Cortana appeared in Windows in 2015, but failed to gain popularity. In March 2021, Microsoft ended support for Cortana for mobile devices. In March 2023, the company introduced the Copilot tool to Microsoft 365: it appeared as a chatbot in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams. In May, Microsoft announced that Copilot would reside in the Windows 11 sidebar to assist the user and perform a range of tasks for them.
