Microsoft has developed tools for repairing its computers by third-party wizards

The iFixit website, known for its electronics disassembly and repair instructions, announced a partnership with Microsoft to release tools to repair its products. The company will manufacture tools for repairing Surface tablets and laptops and sell them to authorized service centers, including those independent of Microsoft. The collaboration was announced a month after Apple announced the imminent launch of a self-repair program for iPhone and Mac.

“Microsoft’s decision to provide tools to third-party technicians is a step in the right direction. It, like many other companies, still has a long way to go in ensuring maintainability, and we are pleased to join them, ”- said the words of iFixit CEO Kyle Viens on the company’s website. He expressed the hope that in the future it will be possible to provide tools to more specialists.

The initial line of products for service centers includes Microsoft-developed tools for detaching and reattaching the screen from the device, as well as a cover to prevent accidental contact of the opened computer’s battery with other parts. Professionals not authorized by Microsoft can apply to participate in the iFixit program.
