Microsoft is celebrating 20 years since the launch of the Xbox, and to mark the occasion the company is adding over 70 games to its backward compatibility catalog. The backward compatibility program began in 2015, and aims to allow players all over the world to discover games from the past twenty years and adapt them to support the latest consoles. In the last two years the program has been discontinued, but now Microsoft is bringing it back with a huge library of games. The 76 games that were added to the catalog were selected, among others, by the gaming community itself, who asked the company for specific titles that they would like to see in customized versions. The new versions will come with improved resolution and HD quality, in 11 of the games the frame rate will even be doubled per second to 60 FPS.
The announcement of the new additions to the catalog comes as a surprise, as Microsoft announced two years ago that it does not intend to continue adding games to the program. The company is now announcing that the 76 new games will definitely be the last. Microsoft has now reached the end of its ability to bring more games to the program, both for technical reasons and for copyright restrictions. From now on, the Xbox will focus on new original games and further improve the games that already exist in the library and adapt them to the technological developments that will come with them in the coming years.

The games added to the catalog are now available for purchase in the Microsoft Store, and will even work for those who have previously purchased them in physical or digital copy.
