A bug in Windows 11 causes problems and causes games to crash. Microsoft has imposed an update ban.
After installing Windows 11 version 24H2, problems may occur, Microsoft says on its website. Accordingly, computers with Auto HDR switched on may crash when playing and colors may not be displayed correctly.
Auto HDR is a feature in Windows that automatically converts SDR content to HDR content in games. The terms SDR (Short Dynamic Range) and HDR (High Dynamic Range) refer to the contrast range of the displayed image.
Until Microsoft resolves the issue with Auto HDR turned on, the company recommends not manually updating Windows 11 to version 24H2 using either the “Installation Wizard or Media Creation Tool.”
Microsoft recommends that affected users manually deactivate the Auto HDR function.
Microsoft has imposed a compatibility ban on computers with Auto HDR enabled. This means that the installation of Windows 11 version 24H2 is not offered via the official update release channel. Only when the company has found a solution will it offer the update again.
The company has been distributing its update to Windows 11 version 24H2 since October 1st. The new version is installed significantly faster than previous ones. Microsoft relies on a combination of forward and reverse differentials to make updates more efficient. You can find out more about this here.
