Just two years ago, AI-powered chatbots were the pinnacle of innovation. Today, it is multimodal assistants that are taking precedence, forcing companies to rush to launch voice assistants integrating artificial intelligence. Microsoft, the last to join this competition, is making its entry with a reimagined version of its Copilot tool.
ChatGPT, Copilot… which AI chatbot to choose in 2024?
Microsoft Updates Copilot
Microsoft has unveiled an update to Copilot, one of the highlights being the addition of Copilot Voice, a voice assistant that can be interrupted and respond to your emotions. Another feature is that it offers four different voices: Wave, Meadow, Grove, and Canyon.
Copilot Voice is available on all platforms, whether through the app, the website, or from Windows. The biggest advantage? It is free for all users. This means that, unlike the voice mode of ChatGPT, you do not need to spend $20 a month for a premium subscription. Even though Gemini Live is free, it remains limited to Android users from the app, which is not the case with Copilot Voice.
The Most Convincing Voice Assistant?
So, how does it perform in a conversation? Microsoft showcased quite an impressive demonstration of its creation.
The Wave voice option, featuring an enthusiastic male voice, impresses with its efficiency. Despite background noise, it manages to understand every word with astonishing accuracy. The assistant also stands out with fluid conversation management, providing quick, witty, and, above all, timely responses. These responses are not just quick: they are perfectly suited to the context, a point where voice assistants often fail, struggling to grasp the user’s intent and thus producing inappropriate responses.
During a demonstration, a Microsoft representative sought the help of Copilot Voice to resolve a personal dilemma: adopting a dog while her partner was against it. Copilot Voice approached the situation seriously, asking questions to better understand the issue. It then proposed thoughtful solutions, comparable to those a human might suggest, thereby demonstrating an ability to offer relevant advice in complex situations.
So, for the crucial question: how does it compare to the voice mode of Gemini Live and ChatGPT? It works just as well and almost identically. The main difference lies in the fact that Copilot Voice is accessible to everyone, without requiring a subscription or specific device, which is a significant advantage.
Copilot Voice is Not Yet Available in French
The rollout of the voice mode has begun in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK, and the US. Other regions will soon be included.
