The American technology company Microsoft sent 1,000 customers from Russia who are not under sanctions an offer to renew their license to use software (SW). This was reported by Kommersant, citing sources.

Chairman of the Russian-Asian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RASPP) Vitaly Mankevich confirmed the information that some companies in Russia received an offer from Microsoft. According to him, in this way the company is trying to establish a conversation with Russian business and evaluates the possibilities for returning to Russia.

According to Ilya Zharsky, managing partner of the Veta expert group, these actions demonstrate Microsoft’s desire to reduce the level of piracy. “Such letters are a guarantee that access to legal products remains open,” he said.

Microsoft announced the decision to suspend activities in Russia at the beginning of March 2022. At the same time, in June it announced that it would continue to fulfill its obligations under existing contracts. The company also retained all offices in Russia. However, last year Microsoft banned Russian users from installing Windows 10 and 11, and in April of this year it stopped warranty service for Xbox consoles in Russia.
