Microsoft reports 23 thousand cyberattacks allegedly behind Russian hackers

by time news

From early July to mid-October, the Nobelium hacker group carried out 22.9 thousand cyber attacks on 609 companies. Microsoft Corporation wrote about this on Monday in its blog. Nobelium is the hacker group allegedly behind attacks on SolarWinds customers last year, as Microsoft previously stated is a group with “Russian roots.”

Microsoft also reported attacks by the group in May against more than 140 technology services, most of which were related to the cloud infrastructure. According to Tom Burt, Microsoft’s vice president of customer security, “this recent activity is another indicator that Russia is trying to gain long-term systematic access to various points in the technological supply chain.”

According to Mr. Burt, about 23,000 cyberattacks in less than four months are a very significant number – more than all attacks Microsoft recorded by government-affiliated groups in the previous three years. At the same time, according to the company, only a small proportion of these 23,000 attacks were successful.
