Microsoft Now Selling Controller Parts on Online Store
In a move that will surely be welcomed by gamers everywhere, Microsoft has announced that it is now selling controller parts on its online store. This means that owners of both the Xbox Elite Series 2 Wireless Controller and the standard Xbox Wireless Controller can easily purchase replacement boards, sticks, buttons, covers, and more.
This new offering from Microsoft is great news for gamers who may have experienced issues with their controllers. Whether it’s broken shoulder buttons or drifting sticks, players no longer have to rely on third-party sources for parts and directions to attempt a repair. This not only saves them time and effort but also potentially saves them money, as buying a brand-new controller can cost anywhere from $59.99 to $179.99.
It is worth noting that iFixit, a popular online resource for repairing electronic devices, also offers parts for Xbox controllers. However, Microsoft’s parts come with a warranty period of one year, whereas iFixit provides a “lifetime” guarantee for its controller parts.
This move by Microsoft also highlights a comparison with Sony’s recently introduced DualSense Edge controller. Priced at $200, the DualSense Edge aims to compete with Microsoft’s Elite series by offering “pro” gamer features. While the controller does come with stick modules that can be easily replaced, Sony does not currently sell replacements for other parts like Microsoft now does on its online store.

Nearly two years ago, the company entered into an agreement with shareholder advocacy group As You Sow to explore this issue. In June of this year, Microsoft also began selling replacement parts for its Surface devices. This move is similar to Apple’s decision to start selling repair kits in 2020.
