The Surface Pro is the best Windows tablet, and the latest model came out last year with Windows 11. The Surface Pro 9 is now official.

With a slim form factor, a 13.3-inch 120Hz touchscreen display with stylus support, and an integrated kickstand, the Surface Pro 9 isn’t much different from its predecessor. However, four colors are available, including two new ones: platinum, sapphire, forest, and graphite. The tablets can be configured with 8, 16 or 32 GB RAM and 128, 256 or 512 GB RAM. The front camera supports Windows Hello and features like Center Stage, which Microsoft calls “auto framing.”

If you’re expecting a Surface Pro with AMD Ryzen processors, like what Microsoft offered with the Surface Laptop, you’ll be disappointed, as the Core i7-1255U is used on the more expensive models. These are still regular laptop-grade processors, so you can expect a slight improvement in efficiency and performance compared to the 11th generation parts found in last year’s Surface Pro 8.

AMD is not on board, but Microsoft is selling a version of the Surface Pro 9 with the ARM-based Microsoft SQ 3 chipset. Previous rumors claimed that the chip will be based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8cx Gen3. However, it’s unlikely to reach the same level of performance as Apple’s ARM-based M1 and M2 chips, but they do support 5G connectivity, which isn’t built into any Mac computer. Microsoft promises up to 19 hours of battery life on the SQ 3 model.

Surface Pro 9 starts at $999.99, and the base model includes a Core i5-1235U CPU, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of internal storage. That’s it many That’s double what you’d pay for a computer without 16GB of RAM, very little space for Windows, and a few big apps. Double the storage costs an additional $100. The cheapest version with 256 GB storage and 16 GB RAM is $1,400.
