Microsoft’s acquisition of Blizzard documents reveals “console war” results: Xbox One sales are less than half of PS4 | XFastest News

Although the competition between game consoles by Microsoft, Sony and other manufacturers is often dubbed “host war” by players, the number of sales will often become a topic for players of the corresponding camp.

But in the eighth generation, due to the absence of Nintendo and Microsoft’s refusal to provide specific sales of the Xbox One series of consoles over the entire life cycle, players can’t really figure out the outcome of the “war”.

Recently, Microsoft was under investigation by Brazil’s competition regulator over its acquisition of Activision Blizzard. In documents provided by Microsoft, it revealed the sales of Microsoft’s previous generation console Xbox One series throughout the life cycle.

To be precise, the document reads: “Sony has surpassed Microsoft in console sales and installs, with more than twice as many sales as the Xbox in the previous generation of consoles.”

According to Sony’s release, the PS4 series of consoles sold a total of 117.2 million units, and the Xbox One series of consoles will sell at least 58.5 million units.

Although this result is not bad compared to the miserable sales of 27.43 million units of the seventh-generation Xbox 360 series, it is still a huge difference from the PS4.

Looking at it now, the sales of the Xbox One series have been more than doubled by Sony. There are not only the high price caused by the early release of the somatosensory hardware, but also the impact of the later period of strongly pushing XGP and abandoning the game exclusive strategy.

However, in the ninth generation, the Xbox Series X|S console still continues the XGP+ non-exclusive market strategy, which may indicate that Microsoft no longer pays attention to the sales of the Xbox console itself.
