Land movies Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom achieved nearly two million admissions for its first week of theatrical release, dethroning Avatar which has reigned supreme on the chart since its release, according to CBO Box Office figures on Wednesday. The most famous of the Gauls, who signed the best start of a French film for 15 years, brought together more than 1.8 million spectators.
eleven years later Asterix and Obelix: at the service of Her Majesty (3.8 million admissions for its total exploitation), the film, directed by Guillaume Canet, who also succeeds Édouard Baer in the costume of Asterix, has found its audience. Without surprise, Avatar 2: The Way of the Water took second place on the podium. James Cameron’s blockbuster has again attracted more than 380,000 spectators in theaters, for a total of more than 13 million admissions since mid-December.
More than 200,000 spectators for Babylon
Another American film, Babylon, Damien Chazelle’s fresco on the Hollywood of yesteryear, also continues to attract, with 234,000 spectators, crossing the one million mark. Next is Night Shyamalan’s latest film, Knock at the Cabin, with over 100,000 entries. The last word goes to the children with Pattie and the Wrath of Poseidona French animated film which made more than 95,000 admissions for its second week of release.
