Miele is cutting jobs in Germany. Those who leave can look forward to record-high severance payments.

As part of its staff cuts, household appliance manufacturer Miele has announced that it will pay affected employees in Germany severance payments of up to 270,000 euros. This was reported by the magazines “Stern” and “Capital” in their current issues. In February, Miele announced the elimination of 1,300 jobs, of which 700 jobs are to be relocated to Polish production.

In June, Miele and IG Metall agreed on a “future and social collective agreement” that secures the German locations until 2028. Part of this agreement is a voluntary exit program that includes generous severance payments. According to research, the agreed calculation formula results in severance payments of up to 270,000 euros in individual cases for long-term employment.

According to “Stern”, these payments are among the highest severance payments made in Germany, reaching the level of large corporations such as SAP or Bayer. Miele confirmed that the severance payments are capped at this maximum amount.
