(ANSA) – TURIN, SEPTEMBER 28 – The campaign for the promotion of a national quality system for beekeeping products is underway. The initiative, promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry in collaboration with Ismea, was presented in Turin, on the occasion of Terra Madre Salone del Gusto 2024. The communication plan is divided into 75 contents on the culture of honeys published on the social networks Instagram and Tik Tok, an in-depth mini-website, video tutorials designed for the web, in addition to the educational activities and tastings organized these days in Turin, and is aimed primarily at younger people, so that they can get closer to the honey product. “The campaign aims to explain the great heritage we have in our country and the great biodiversity that characterizes the Italian areas and regions” explains Luigi D’Eramo, undersecretary of Agriculture, food sovereignty and forests. “There are many honeys, they represent a decisive reality that must be adequately supported with defense, support and promotion actions” continued D’Eramo, recalling that “thanks to the collaboration between Masaf and the entire beekeeping chain, a The national quality system for honey will soon be a reality: clear rules to identify quality and traceability, a further element that will give strength to our supply chain”. “Today in Italy there are over 50 unifloral honeys, a myriad of wildflowers and each region expresses at least one particular honey” added Livio Proietti, president of Ismea. In Italy “75 thousand beekeepers work, for a total of 1.8 million hives. Last year – he reported – production stood at 22 thousand tons: it seems like a lot, but we would need at least double that amount. Above all, it consumes little honey where it is most needed, that is, among the young and very young”. The president of Slow Food Italia, Barbara Nappini, also took part in the presentation of the campaign: “Telling honey and the stories of those who produce it is even more important today because beekeepers carry out increasingly complex work, also due of climate change and the environmental crisis. This is why an awareness campaign on this issue, starting with the youngest, is more fundamental than ever.” (HANDLE).
