Following the floods and landslides that occurred last weekend in 13 provinces of the country, due to the strong winter storm, the Minister of Economic and Social Inclusion (MIES), Zaida Rovira, ordered the immediate activation of the technical teams of this State portfolio, in order to provide timely assistance to the families who were affected. In addition, it is expected to deliver a total of 2,569 kits with humanitarian aid, including clothing, non-perishable food, hygiene, biosecurity and other supplies, benefiting 1,929 people.
One of the most affected provinces was Tungurahua. Minister Rovira, along with several authorities from other State portfolios, toured the ground zero and visited the affected families in the Ulba parish, where a landslide occurred that caused human losses and several material damages. In this sector, 91 kits with humanitarian aid have already been delivered and a delivery of 850 more kits is planned.
In addition, the MIES technical team, in coordination with the National Secretariat for Risk Management, is touring the affected area to gather information and evaluate the possibility of an immediate delivery of the contingency bonus for people affected by natural disasters.
The head of the MIES pointed out that, in compliance with the order given by President Daniel Noboa, several State institutions were activated urgently and immediately to provide timely and comprehensive assistance to all the families who were affected. “We have activated the entire contingent of the National Government to assist the victims,” she added.
The highest authority of this State portfolio also visited the Penipe canton, in the province of Chimborazo, where he confirmed the damage caused by the flooding of the Chambo River and later went to the Palitahua community, to visit the families affected by the flooding of the Puela River.
On the other hand, in the province of Napo, the MIES technical team is assisting families who were affected by the avalanche and overflow of the Gallo de Peña and San José streams, in the Sardinas parish, and the flooding that occurred in the Oyacachi parish, both in the El Chaco canton.
In Sardinas, 42 kits with humanitarian aid were delivered, while in Oyacachi, 200 kits were delivered and 1,378 more kits are planned to be delivered in the coming days for the affected people.
Institutional aid also reached the province of Azuay, where eight kits were delivered to families who were affected by the landslide that occurred in the Palmas de Jordán sector, in the Sevilla de Oro canton.
