Within the framework of World Migrant and Refugee Day, which the Church celebrates on the last Sunday of September, Pope Francis reiterated that emigrating “must be a free choice and never the only possible one.”
At the end of the Angelus prayer from the window of the Apostolic Palace of the Vatican, the Holy Father recalled that this Sunday, September 24, World Migrant and Refugee Day is celebrated, under the motto “Free to choose to emigrate or stay, to remind us that “Emigrating should be a free choice and never the only one possible.”
Just one day after returning to Rome after his Apostolic Journey to Marseille, from where he denounced the situation of immigrants in the Mediterranean and appealed to Europe’s responsibility, the Pontiff stressed that “every man and every woman should be guaranteed the opportunity to live a dignified life in the society in which they find themselves.”
