BOLZANO. Dal first of May I am cold emergency centers closed open at the former Alimarket of via Gobetti and at thefrom Inpdap in via Pacinotti: the first has 135 beds; 200 per second. In total 335 people who will only be resettled in a small part. We are talking about around 70 who have a job, but do not have accommodation. Added to these are around thirty subjects considered “fragile”. The intention is to welcome them in via Pacinotti. Not immediately though. The property, purchased last autumn by the Province and managed by the Civil Protection, needs major renovation works to bring it up to standard. Then it will pass to the Municipality, but it will take months. The day center and canteen remain open in the former Alimarket; but the structure should no longer be used for cold emergencies.

Next winter, the service will only work at the former Inpdap.

Who is left out

Most of those who, in recent months, have been hosted at the former Inpdap and the former Alimarket will therefore end up on the streets. Unless – as the Municipality hopes – they return to their places of origin: Verona, Mantua, Milan.

«They came here – explained the mayor Renzo Caramaschi yesterday – because they found a roof. But the cold emergency is over.”

The migrant issue returned to the attention of the municipal council yesterday and was updated on the numbers by the social councilor Juri Andriollo. It is estimated that in the capital the migrants welcomed in the various structures are around 1200; against the few dozen hosted in the other centers in Alto Adige. «However, we ask the Province – the mayor reiterated – not to buy any more structures in Bolzano. If there is a need, do it; However, it is not possible for everything to continue to be concentrated in the capital.”

Two million euros spent

Deputy mayor Stephan Konder is even harsher: «It is no longer acceptable that Val Pusteria, Val Badia, Bassa Atesina, Oltradige do nothing to host migrants. That all problems are dumped on the capital. If people are distributed, everything becomes easier. They can also enter the world of work.” Konder also spoke about costs: «Since there are not enough places in the structures, in Bolzano there are around a hundred women and children hosted in the hotel. Cost: around two million euros per year. It is true that the expenses are covered by the Province, but they are still borne by the community.”

Center of via Comini

On May 6th the migrant center in via Comini closes: the 95 guests will be transferred to the former Alimarket until June. «The time needed – explains Andriollo – to redo the bathrooms and “level” the walls: in this way we will also have to solve the problem of bedbugs».
