Last Friday I received a visit from the CD Senator, Miguel Uribe Turbay. He attended several political meetings and dressed several media outlets in Pereira. But he reserved the end of the day to visit me and have a less rushed meeting that ended in the middle of the night. He was accompanied by the former senator and founder of the CD, José Obdulio Gaviria. I met Miguel three years ago one Christmas when he came to visit me and we had a long and very friendly lunch together. There he told me everything about himself, his career and his aspirations. His grandfather, former President Julio César Turbay, served as President of the Republic, when I was Mayor of Perera in the years 1981-82.
Miguel Uribe Turbay is the son of Diana Turbay, who was kidnapped and murdered by Pablo Escobar. The visit on Friday in the company of José Obdulio was to tell me about his presidential candidacy for the CD. Miguel will submit to the mechanism (consultation or survey) determined by the party to choose one of the 5 candidates, which are María Fernanda Cabal, Paloma Valencia, Paola Holguín, Andrés Guerra, and Miguel Uribe. He is a lawyer from the University of Los Andes, a 38-year-old native of Bogotá, married and with two master’s degrees, one in public policy from the University of Los Andes and the other in public administration from Harvard. A politician with a completely transparent resume and a very outstanding career as Secretary of the Government of Bogotá alongside Enrique Peñalosa and another as the most voted Senator of the CD.
I had a long and insightful conversation with Miguel and José Obdulio, scrutinizing the true possibilities of their aspiration, in a political panorama with 45 candidates for the presidency of Colombia. He told me that he has prepared a very solid and consistent political platform that he is strengthening with his tours throughout the national territory. He has been a staunch opponent of the Petro government and the person responsible for the fact that many of his outrages in Congress have not passed. A total politician like his grandfather Julio César Turbay, in a modern version and very agile to understand and present politics.
Miguel is a very kind man, very easy to get along with, and also very studious. This has allowed him to have a very clear vision of what is happening in this country and what needs to be done to straighten its course. José Obdulio Gaviria is a bible and has a prodigious memory. Also, such an ability to understand politics that I now understand why he has always been Álvaro Uribe’s permanent advisor.
Miguel Uribe is clear that he is going to be the CD candidate and then the president of the Republic. But he is not a crazy dreamer like so many aspirants today. He is a strategist like his grandfather, who calculates each step, each alliance and each meeting with a very clear measure of effectiveness. He is as willing as anyone to build alliances with other parties and candidates, always supporting the best and with the most possibilities. It is a productive, friendly, open position but with many risks.
And Miguel is prepared for that dangerous game and also willing to support whoever overcomes it. With the greatest peace of mind! Miguel Uribe is one of the strongest cards in the bid for the presidency of Colombia. First because the CD, now with Uribe in command, will once again be the strongest party in this contest. The left and the greens are not only discredited with this government, but very divided.
Uribe is retreaded and willing to fight meter by meter to recover this country. And Miguel, in addition to youth and political sex appeal, has a lot of academics and very analyzed the paths and strategies to get out of this mess. Young, ambitious, disciplined, early riser, studious and like his grandfather, a political magnet.
As I told you, I already knew him and we interacted through the networks.
But be notified and that is why I share this news with you that there is someone who can save us.
Good luck to Miguel and all the good guys who set out to save this country.

Interview between Time.news Editor and Political Expert
Editor: Good afternoon, and thank you for joining us today. We’re excited to delve into the political landscape as we discuss Miguel Uribe Turbay’s recent presidential aspirations. To start, can you provide some background on Uribe’s political journey?
Expert: Absolutely! Miguel Uribe Turbay, born in Bogotá, is a notable figure in Colombian politics. At just 38, he boasts an impressive educational background with degrees from the University of Los Andes and Harvard. Most importantly, he’s connected to a political legacy—his grandfather, Julio César Turbay, served as President of Colombia from 1978 to 1982. Miguel also has a compelling personal narrative; he is the son of Diana Turbay, who tragically became a victim of Pablo Escobar’s violence.
Editor: That’s indeed a profound background. He certainly has a lot of experience for someone his age. What can you tell us about his recent meeting and the context surrounding his presidential candidacy?
Expert: Last Friday, Miguel met with various stakeholders in Pereira, culminating in a late-night discussion with the former senator José Obdulio Gaviria. This meeting was primarily centered around his candidacy for the Conservative Party (CD). Miguel is evaluating his options regarding the party’s selection process, which may include a consultation or a survey among five candidates, including himself. This shows his strategic thinking; he’s positioning himself as a serious contender within a crowded field of presidential aspirants.
Editor: With 45 candidates vying for the presidency, how does he plan to distinguish himself in such a competitive arena?
Expert: Miguel has crafted a robust political platform that he’s actively promoting through national tours. His opposition to the current government led by Gustavo Petro is also a critical point of differentiation. He’s been effective in Congress, blocking several initiatives from the Petro administration, which displays his capability to navigate and influence the legislative process. This experience, combined with his respect for political alliances, paints him as a serious candidate who calculates his moves carefully.
Editor: It’s interesting to note he is seen as a current effective politician. But can you elaborate more on his political strategy?
Expert: Certainly. Miguel Uribe is known for his strategic acumen, similar to that of his grandfather. He’s not just dreaming of the presidency in an idealistic sense; he has a clear, pragmatic approach. He understands the necessity of forming alliances, and he’s open to collaborating with other parties to bolster his candidacy. This willingness to work alongside others while maintaining a solid stance on his principles is a crucial aspect of his strategy.
Editor: And how does he handle the risks that come with such a strategic approach?
Expert: Miguel seems very well-prepared for the complexities of the political arena. The game he’s entering is not without risks, particularly in a landscape where the left is gaining traction. However, he demonstrates confidence and a readiness to support whoever emerges as the strongest candidate, which indicates a level of adaptability and foresight. He’s aiming to position himself as a frontrunner, and that requires navigating these alliances carefully while maintaining respect from his opponents.
Editor: Lastly, what do you believe are his chances in the upcoming election, considering the current political climate?
Expert: Miguel Uribe Turbay stands out as one of the strongest contenders in the bid for the presidency. His party, the CD, is rejuvenating under his potential leadership. Given that the left is facing discreditation with the current government, it creates a unique opportunity for him to rally support. His combination of experience, political legacy, and strategic focus positions him well, and it’ll be fascinating to see how his candidacy evolves as the election approaches.
Editor: Thank you for your insights. It’s clear that Miguel Uribe Turbay is a figure to watch as Colombia moves toward its presidential elections. We appreciate your analysis and look forward to further developments in this intriguing political landscape.
