Of course, you can stay without seeing it. After all, this is not exactly the usual Indy but the octogenarian version of him and there is little left to add to his adventurous world. They may not go, but they will miss those moments – when a certain hat and a certain whip appear, when passages from John Williams’ paparapa play and we see the figure of the hero jumping over the wagons of a moving night train…- in that gives us a turn to the heart and we feel the same emotion as in 1981, the joy for the adventure of always.

Indiana Jones and the dial of fate

USA. 2023. 154m. (12). Adventure

Directed by: James Mangold.

Screenplay: Jez and John-Henry Butterworth, James Mangold.

Starring: Harrison Ford, Mads Mikkelsen, Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

Photography: John Williams.

Music: Mychael Danna and Jessica Weiss.

Undoubtedly, they can do without ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Fate’ because it badly misses several secondary characters to whom it does not give air (Antonio Banderas as a diver, Shaunette Renée Wilson as a CIA agent, the child Ethann Isidore). Of course, that way they will miss the very emotional sequence at the end, and the wonderful chemistry between Indiana and another woman of arms to take, his goddaughter Helena (Phoebe Waller-Bridge). And they will be left without the wise approach of James Mangold to the figure of Indiana. Harrison Ford is the brave and long-suffering hero of all time but more battered by life. The harshness of the passage of time and the feeling that “this is a world to which we no longer matter” coexist with the eternal playful spirit.

‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Fate’ may not be a great movie and it has a bit of footage left over, but it is a more than worthy tribute and a respectful goodbye to a character who in the fourth film of the saga, the forgettable ‘ kingdom of the crystal skull’, we did not say goodbye as it deserved. Let’s enjoy a movie with “too many Nazis”, not too many bugs and that ‘paparapa’ that at the same time rejuvenates us and ages us.
