It has been launched as the commercial comedy of the summer of 2023. Nothing to object to. Out comes sun-drenched landscapes, a beach (oh, Jennifer Lawrence’s edgyly disturbing scene on the shore at night), a marina beach bar, and drinks through straws.
Why isn’t it going to be this summer’s comedy? After all, ‘Sin malos rollos’ is a holiday tasting menu, with bites of rude comedy, of romanticism to use (that is, partly anti-romantic), of movies for youngsters the last summer before university, of products like ‘Virgin at 40’.

As in the commercial comedies of a lifetime, ‘No bad vibes’ is a star cinema (or rather a star, since reuniting with Matthew Broderick many years and kilos later does not work). We knew that beyond hilariously tripping at award shows, Jennifer Lawrence had a comedic streak. Here she unties it, oh yes. With an excessive, rude and hard character, a woman as brutal as attractive, back from everything that, in exchange for a car, she accepts the secret order of her parents to wake up and, finally, deflower a timid boy rich.
Everything that you and I imagine will happen, although we must recognize ‘No bad vibes’ that surprises by pointing, without anyone asking it to a summer comedy, some current social issues: the overprotection of children, the gentrification of some areas, the new generations hanging on the smartphone… The thing doesn’t cause too much laughter and perhaps it will soon lean towards the sentimental and even the dramatic, but it entertains, it has people hanging from the windshield of the cars and it is a joy to see how Lawrence pulls off a atypical and almost unsympathetic character. We settle for it, we are in summer.
