The ex-president of the country, Mikhail Saakashvili, who is in custody in Georgia, has ended his hunger strike on October 4. This was announced on Saturday, November 20, by the politician’s doctor Nikoloz Kipshidze.

Rehabilitation after a 50-day hunger strike will be appointed by a board of doctors. Currently, a medical council is being held at the Gori military hospital, the Rustavi 2 TV channel notes.

Doctors will make a list of Saakashvili’s visitors who can visit the ex-president.

The convicted ex-president was taken to the hospital the day before. The ambulance was accompanied by the car of the punishment service and the police. Also with the politician were lawyers and a personal doctor.

On November 19, specialists who visited Saakashvili in prison revealed a serious brain disease, due to which the politician is likely to develop a coma with a possible fatal outcome. In this regard, the Ministry of Justice of Georgia decided to take the ex-president, who is in the intensive care unit of the prison hospital, to the military hospital in Gori.

The former Georgian leader was detained October 1 in Tbilisi after his return to the country ahead of local elections. A criminal case was initiated against him on illegal crossing of the country’s border.

In addition, the ex-president at home was convicted in absentia of the murder of banker Sandro Girgvliani and the beating of deputy Valery Gelashvili. In the first case, he was sentenced to three years in prison, in the second – to six.

Saakashvili is also involved in the cases of dispersal of the opposition rally on November 7, 2007, the pogrom of the Imedi TV company and the embezzlement of funds from the state budget – they continue to be considered by the courts.
