The 48-year-old Faroese joined FFK from KI Klaksvik after the 2022 season, and has led FFK through the 2023 promotion season so far. In total, there were 44 league games and 7 NM games.

Dear all of you who are so fond of Fredrikstad Fotballklub, it is with great gratitude and uniqueness that I am now going from being a FFK coach to being a FFK supporter. I have been very happy to be a part of this club’s amazing journey, and I have enjoyed every second with you all, says Thomassen and continues:

– Many thanks to a very talented management who, together with the club’s employees, gave me unconditional “support” through thick and thin, and enabled us to succeed as a club. Many thanks to a very capable support team who have dedicated the success of the club. Many thanks to a team of players who were loyal beyond all limits to each other and to the club.

– To Plankehaugen and all FFK supporters, thank you for the journey, trust and love. I am very grateful to you. The club is in good hands. Follow the dream, concludes Mikkkjal Thomassen.

– Delivery on large order

Sports manager Joacim Heier thanks Thomassen for his contribution to FFK in recent years, and wishes the Faroese coach all the best in his new club.

– You rarely make such unknown, but nevertheless such sure decisions, as when we hired Mikkjal. We got a head coach who helped achieve the training culture and the standard we wanted FFK to stand for, says Heier and added:

– Mikkjal has delivered a large order and has greatly contributed to the good development of FFK in recent years. Thank you very much for your work at FFK, best of luck to you and your family in the future, Mikkkjal!

It is not yet possible to announce which clubs FFK and Thomassen agree with, as there are still some formalities between the clubs.

The plan is ready for the way forward

Assistant coach Andreas Hagen takes over as interim head coach at FFK, along with a team consisting of two football coaches, two physical coaches, a goalkeeping coach and two resources in the medical apparatus.

Andreas Hagen takes over as interim head coach.

Hagen has been an assistant coach at FFK since December 2022, and made a significant contribution to the promotion season and Eliteserie comeback. Hagen also has history from FK Jerv as an assistant coach in both the Eliteserien and OBOS series.

– Andreas Hagen leads our strong and competent training and support team. Andreas has been an important piece in the development of FFK over the past year and a half, and a natural choice as head coach in the transition period now ahead, says Heier and added:

– He and the team will maintain and further develop the culture and quality embodied. FFK’s ambitions are, and will continue to be, great. We have a long way to go before reaching capacity.

– The process in hand

At the same time, Heier says the process to hire a permanent leader is underway.

– The process to hire the next permanent coach in FFK starts immediately, and as happened with the previous appointment, it must be done thoroughly, patiently and with the club’s planning and strategy as a basis, according to Heier.
