In its meeting on Monday 5 August, the Provincial Technical Committee chaired by the Councillor for Public Works Christian Bianchi, approved the project for the construction of a snow storage basin artificial near the Anterselva Biathlon Centera key infrastructure in preparation for the 2026 Winter Olympics.

The aim of the project is to build an open reservoir with a useful capacity of approximately 31,500 m³together with the related additional structures. After examining various construction possibilities and conducting in-depth geological, seismic and hydrological investigations, it was decided to locate the basin in the flattest area of the “Schwonta” zone, located on the orographic left of the Rio Croda Rossa in Rasun-Anterselva, at an altitude of approximately 1,700 metres.

“The construction of this basin is of fundamental importance in view of the 2026 Winter Olympics. To ensure its construction within the expected timeframe, the project was presented and approved by the Provincial Technical Committee, during this week’s meeting, so that it can move on to the next phase. The construction site will start in April 2025 and will end in October of the same year, so that everything will be ready for the start of the sporting event,” says Bianchi.

The basin will be crucial to ensure the availability of artificial snow needed for sporting events, contributing to the success of the competitions. The construction of accumulation basins allows for a great optimization of water consumption and guarantees more sustainable and resource-friendly artificial snowmaking.
