The Chamber of Deputies is already in session to discuss the bill by the Minister of Economy and presidential candidate Sergio Massa to modify the Income Tax.

The initiative exempts workers in the fourth category from paying the tax and sets a new non-taxable minimum at 15 Minimum, Living and Mobile Wages.

The ruling party achieved a quorum of 129 with the support of different opposition blocks, including La Libertad Avanza. The presidential candidate Javier Milei and his running mate, Victoria Villarruel, contributed to the number and will vote in favor of the project, as will the third member of the space, Carolina Píparo.

However, the surprise was the presence of four deputies from Together for Change. These are legislators from the Evolution bloc, which responds to Senator Martín Lousteau: Gabriela Brouwer de Koning from Córdoba, Emiliano Yacobitti from Buenos Aires, Danya Tavela from Buenos Aires and Marcela Antola from Entre Rios.

Even though the main opposition interbloc had closed ranks so as not to provide a quorum, those four legislators distanced themselves and sat on their benches. The reason: the session will discuss the creation of national universities that are supported by Evolución Radical, specifically that of Río Tercero, in Córdoba.

It should be remembered that Yacobitti, one of those who contributed to the quorum, is vice-rector of the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) and has been promoting some of the new universities for some time. In any case, the one he promotes, in Saladillo (province of Buenos Aires) was excluded from the agenda.

The four deputies of the Left Front, Myriam Bregman, Nicolás Del Caño, Romina Del Plá and Alejandro Vilca were also key to opening the session for Profits; and three of the eight deputies of the Federal Interbloc, Alejandro “Topo” Rodríguez, Natalia De la Sota and Graciela Camaño.

Other deputies present were the elected governors of Neuquén, Rolando Figueroa, and of Santa Cruz, Claudio Vidal, in addition to Felipe Álvarez from Rioja and the two representatives of the Missionary Concord Front, Diego Sartori and Carlos Fernández.

Massa is expected to attend Congress in the afternoon to accompany the approval of the Profits project, within a framework of mobilizations by the CGT and the two CTAs around the Legislative Palace.

“Those who did not have a quorum should explain to the people”

“It is very important to have obtained a quorum to remove an unfair tax on salaries that has a direct impact on the recomposition of income. “Those who did not have a quorum should explain it to the people,” said the president of the lower house, Cecilia Moreau.

Along these lines, he maintained that “those who did not provide a quorum should take charge. “They will not have a clear conscience if they do not honor their word and do not remove the unfair salary tax.”

For Moreau, the project “is being treated within the framework of a package of measures that Minister Massa announced after being able to rearrange in this instance that very damaging agreement, that very damaging debt that Mauricio Macri left us with the IMF.”

“Macri’s statement that in his government the workers were going to stop paying Profits, when he doubled the number of workers who paid it, still makes a noise in my ear,” he stated.
