Javier Milei is the current president of Argentina

President from Argentina
, Javier Miley
suffered a severe blow, last Tuesday (6), when he saw the “Bus Law”
his main bet for economic change in the country, suffers a setback in Chamber of Deputies
. Irritated by the choice of some parliamentarians, the Argentine president called the opposition “criminals” during a press conference, this Wednesday (7).

“It’s a very interesting day to talk about Argentina, because yesterday, in the session of the Chamber of Deputies, the political caste, as we call this group of criminals who want a worse Argentina because they are not willing to give up their privileges, began to tear our law to pieces”, said the president of Argentina.

Milei also stated that the deputies who voted against the reform package are “traitors” to the Argentine electorate and “wolves in sheep’s clothing.” In a furious tone, the Argentine leader also made specific criticisms of left-wing parliamentarians. “Left progressives multiply the number of poor people in the country. It’s like King Midas, but in reverse: King Midas turned everything he touched into gold, everything a leftist touches turns into poverty,” he said.

Obstruction

Last week, the package of measures, called the “Bus Law”, was approved by Argentine deputies. Parliamentarians, however, needed to vote item by item on the project this Tuesday and, in the end, ended up returning the text to its initial phase.

During the individual voting on more than 380 articles, an obstacle related to privatizations occurred, resulting in the loss of effect of the basic text that had been approved the previous week. Meanwhile, Milei is in Israel, on an international trip that will include visits to Italy and the Vatican

The Bus Law

Milei’s main banner in the elections, the megaproject centralizes power in the Executive, modifies taxes and changes several other rules, such as the privatization of state-owned companies.

Controversial, the proposal was resisted by the population, who promoted a series of demonstrations in the Argentine capital. Due to its unpopularity, the government made some concessions and also withdrew some sections of the project – Milei’s party, it is worth remembering, is a minority in Congress.

The megaproject is divided into ten areas: declaration of public emergency; deregulation of the economy; privatizations of public companies; tax changes; undeclared money laundering schemes; security; defense; health; justice; and education.
