Javier Miley began at 9:56 pm his first speech as president-elect of the Argentina. Asked by a supporter if he really is the president of the country, he replied, good-naturedly: “It seems so.” Between shouts of “freedom” and “president”, the ultra-liberal did not appear as incendiary as in most of the campaign, but declared that “today the end of Argentine decadence begins”. Furthermore, he thanked the inspectors who counted the votes and the “patriotic gestures” of Patricia Bullrich, a center-right candidate who came third in the first round, and former president Mauricio Macri, her greatest ally. “Today we begin to turn the page. Today the model of the omnipresent and impoverishing State ends”, said the ultra-liberal, in a clear message to the defeated Peronists. Alberto Fernandezwho will pass the banner to Milei on December 10, supported his Economy Minister, Sergio Massa. With 95.84% of the ballots counted, the winner has 55.78% of the votes against 44.21% for his opponent.

Milei declared that “Argentina has a future, this future exists and is liberal” and declared that, if it continues on this path, the country will be “a world power again” in 35 years. “We know that there are people who will resist, there are people who want to maintain this system of privileges for some and this impoverishes the majority of Argentines. I want to say to everyone that everything is within the law, nothing is outside the law”, said the president-elect. “We will be ruthless towards those who want to use force to defend their privileges. We want to ask the government to be responsible, to understand that a new Argentina has arrived and to act accordingly. That he assumes his responsibility until the end of his mandate on the 10th of the 12th. Thus, once his mandate ends, we can transform this tragic reality for millions of Argentines […] Enough of the impoverishing caste model.”

The winner of the night highlighted several times the fact that Argentina elected “the first liberal libertarian president of humanity”. “Thank you to whoever made this possible,” he thanked. There were two speeches, one at the Hotel Libertador and another, more incisive, on top of an electric trio. In both, he ended his speech with shouts of “long live freedom, dammit”, to the delight of the thousands of supporters who insisted on seeing the first speech from an elected libertarian. In the end, he stepped down from the trio and was carried by the crowd, hopeful that Argentina will finally turn the page and be able to emerge from its economic crisis.
