For its part, the opposition questioned La Moneda for the departure of Venezuelan citizens, calling it “a disgrace.”

Manuel Monsalve, Undersecretary of the Interior, reacted to the decision of Ronald Ojeda’s family to leave Chile for Argentina, where the government of Javier Milei had granted them political asylum.

According to Radio Biobío, Ronald Ojeda’s widow, son, sister and nephews left the country citing security concerns.

In view of this, Monsalve said that “it is important to respect the decisions of families in this matter. Here is a family that has been the victim of a serious crime, kidnapping and homicide.”

The Undersecretary of the Interior made it clear that “in international matters, Chile is considered – in this matter and particularly for people who are given the category of refugees – a safe country (…) we have no record of an event similar to what happened with Lieutenant Ojeda, adding that “for all international organizations, Chile is a safe country in terms of refuge.”

Asked about the reasons for Ronald Ojeda’s close associates leaving the country, Monsalve said, “I want to be very cautious about this, Because we believe that when families face situations of this nature, in addition to the material impact, they have a very strong emotional impact and therefore we must be respectful of the decisions they make.”

For its part, the opposition questioned La Moneda for the departure of Venezuelan citizens, calling it “a disgrace.”

“This must be one of the most resounding failures in decades of democracy and of the ease of granting refugee guarantees to people who request it,” declared Deputy Miguel Becker (RN), president of the investigative commission for the Ojeda case.
