President-elect Javier Milei arrived in New York, United States, in what is his first trip abroad after his victory in the runoff election on Sunday, December 19.

On his first stop, the founder of La Libertad Avanza visited “El Ohel”, the tomb of Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, in line with his expressed wishes to make the final conversion to Judaism.

Milei traveled accompanied by his sister and main advisor Karina, who will be the general secretary of the presidency; the designated Chief of Staff, Nicolás Posse, and his advisor Santiago Caputo.

Completing the delegation are Luis “Toto” Caputo, the man targeted to take over the leadership of the Ministry of Economy; Gerardo Werthein, who is being nominated for ambassador to the United States; and Mark Stanley, US ambassador to Argentina.

His first activity in the capital of North America gives rise to the “personal” stage of the journey, marked by the visit to the tomb of the renowned Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, also known as the Rebbe. He is the seventh and last rebbe of Chabad Lubavitch, a branch of Hasidic Judaism.

At 9:21 a.m. (United States time), Milei entered the Montefiore cemetery accompanied by his sister, Werthein and Stanley. There, she dedicated several minutes to reading psalms in front of the coffin of the renowned rabbi.

At ten minutes past, moved, the Milei brothers left the place without giving any statements. The only one who spoke was Werthein, who briefly expressed that it was “a very emotional moment.”

Schneerson was a charismatic leader and prolific religious thinker who built Chabad Lubavitch into one of the most influential Jewish organizations in the world. He was noted for his approach to Torah and Judaism as a guide for everyday life.

He was also an advocate of Jewish education and the dissemination of Jewish culture; He founded schools and organizations to promote education and the spread of Jewish culture.

It is not the first time that Milei visits the tomb of the “Lubavitch rebbe”, in July of this year, before the PASO, he was in the Montefiore cemetery, which is why he was determined to return as a way of thanking him.

Before the express trip, the libertarian economist attended the Havdalah on Saturday night, a ceremony that separates Shabbat from the rest of the days that make up the week, in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Balvanera. As part of the ceremony, he received the blessing of Mekuval Rabbi David Pinto Shlita and was immortalized in a video that quickly went viral on social networks.

The second stop on the itinerary will be in Washington, where the libertarian is expected to hold formal meetings with officials from the International Monetary Fund, the White House and the US Treasury, before whom he will detail the economic plan of his administration based on fiscal adjustment, reform monetary, State reform and deregulation.

Initially, the visit was scheduled for Friday, but had to be postponed due to the frenetic negotiations and appointments in the formation of his future Cabinet of ministers.
