Miley Cyrus Reflects on the ‘Magical’ Home She Shared with Liam Hemsworth

In a new TikTok video shared on Tuesday, Miley Cyrus opened up about the “magical” home she once shared with her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth. The couple moved into the Malibu home after getting back together and getting engaged for the second time in 2016. Unfortunately, their beloved house was destroyed in a devastating wildfire in 2018, leading to their eventual divorce the following year.

Cyrus expressed how much the house meant to her, saying, “That house had so much magic to it that it ended up really changing my life.” She revealed an interesting connection to the home, explaining that she recorded her debut album, Meet Miley Cyrus, there in 2007. At the time, producer Matthew Wilder was living in the house, unaware that it would one day belong to Cyrus.

The album helped bridge the gap between Cyrus’ solo music career and her starring role on Disney Channel’s Hannah Montana. She described it as the place where she started writing her own songs as a solo artist. Little did she know that years later, she would be living in the same house that would eventually burn down.

Cyrus had previously referenced the home in her song “Flowers,” which fans believe is about her relationship with Hemsworth. The lyrics alluded to the couple’s failed marriage and the destruction of their Malibu home.

In November 2018, their house was completely destroyed by the Woolsey Fire. At the time, Cyrus was filming in South Africa, while Hemsworth was able to rescue their pets from the fire. Hemsworth shared a heartbreaking photo on Instagram, showing a scorched “love” sign among the burnt debris.

The couple had a tumultuous on/off relationship for nearly a decade, starting from when they met on the set of their film, The Last Song, in 2010. In an interview with Vanity Fair in 2019, Cyrus spoke about the devastating experience of losing her home. She acknowledged that while she would never be happy about losing cherished memories, the experience brought her closer to her humanity.

In the TikTok video, Cyrus also discussed the reason behind releasing Meet Miley Cyrus as a two-disc album packaged with Hannah Montana 2. She explained that at the time, she wasn’t valued in the same way as her Hannah Montana persona. Releasing the albums together was a way to connect the two and showcase that she was the voice behind Hannah.

Reflecting on the past and the significance of the home she once shared with Hemsworth, Cyrus described it as a place filled with magic. Despite its unfortunate destruction, the memories and experiences within that house will always hold a special place in her heart.
