He also emphasized, “It is expected that it will take a considerable amount of time to produce missiles to fill the launch pads,” and “It looks as if the weapons have been deployed to the front lines and will attack South Korea right now, but the people do not need to worry.”
On the 5th, North Korea‘s external media outlet, Korean Central News Agency, reported that a ceremony to commemorate the handover of a new tactical ballistic missile weapon system was held in Pyongyang the previous day (the 4th).
The news agency reported that “it was a ceremony in which 250 new tactical ballistic missile launchers produced at key military enterprises were handed over to the frontline border units,” adding that “another defense asset with great military-strategic value was lined up in a majestic manner, demonstrating its unique appearance.”
The military believes that the launcher revealed by North Korea is a transporter erector launcher (TEL) used for the Hwasong-11Ra. The Hwasong-11Ra is a short-range ballistic missile (CRBM) with a range of up to 150 km.
The launcher is equipped with four square launch tubes. If 250 are launched at once, it can fire up to 1,000 missiles.
However, even if North Korea deploys these launchers, it is uncertain whether they will pose a threat to our military. Although theoretically, they can fire 1,000 missiles at once, the prevailing analysis is that it will be difficult for North Korea to secure that many ballistic missiles.
