This is the first time that this championship has been organized in Brittany. This international sporting event, which began on August 16, brings together 500 players and managers from all over the world – twelve different nations – who will play around thirty matches in 26 Breton stadiums, including Concarneau. In particular, France, whose team is made up of players from the three armies and the national gendarmerie, will face off against Australia, Fiji, the Netherlands, England, New Zealand… The final is scheduled September 10 in Vannes (Morbihan).
A few days before the Rugby World Cup, the Rugby Club Concarnois (RCC) will host on the lawn of the Henri Serandour stadium, this August 23, one of the three group matches of the French team on its lawn, against Japan. This is not his first international event having already hosted the European Under-18 Cup in 2017. But here we reach the global dimension. The club’s fifty or so volunteers have been working for several days to perfect the logistics. Accommodating a few thousand people at the stadium requires rigorous organization.
A rich year for the RCC whose team 1 will evolve this year in Federal 3 after a superb season. The players of Loïc Tanneau, the president of the club, even won the title of champions of Brittany at 7 in the Honor Promotion of Honor category.
An air show
In addition to the match scheduled for 7 p.m., many events will punctuate the historic afternoon. The gates to the stadium will open at 4 p.m. To make the youngest wait, a rugby park will be available to them on the training ground. After the aubade of Bagad Concarnois, the party will be aerial: landing of paratroopers on the lawn, duly carrying the match ball, demonstration of an Air Force plane which will release smoke to draw in the sky the French tricolor flag. With such an aerial deployment, there is no doubt that the motivation of the national team will be in the firmament.
Practical: Admission: €5 per person within the limits of available places. Free for the military, FFR licensees, people with disabilities with accompanying person and children under 18.
