Interview Between Time.news Editor and Nikos Sakkas, Mayor of Trikala
Time.news Editor: Good afternoon, Mr. Sakkas. Thank you for joining us today. It’s a pleasure to speak with you.
Nikos Sakkas: Good afternoon! Thank you for having me.
Editor: Let’s dive right in. You recently emphasized the orderly functioning of Trikala. What measures have you implemented to ensure this consistency, especially in light of challenges faced by other municipalities, such as the one in Larissa with increasing fees?
Sakkas: Absolutely. We’ve made a concerted effort to maintain stability in municipal fees. Unlike Larissa, there has been no increase in our fees, which reflects our commitment to making Trikala a more affordable place for our citizens. Additionally, we’ve developed a parking facility that offers free or low-cost options to support easier access to the city.
Editor: That’s commendable! Speaking of community, you mentioned a strong relationship with the Regional Governor of Thessaly, Dimitris Kouretas. How has this collaboration impacted Trikala’s development?
Sakkas: Our partnership is excellent, and it’s crucial for the advancements we’re pursuing. Dimitris understands the complexities of our projects and is always open to dialogue. This synergy allows us to overcome challenges effectively, especially in a post-crisis landscape where every decision counts.
Editor: Let’s talk about an event that’s become a cornerstone of Trikala’s festive season—the Mill of the Elves. You faced significant challenges with last year’s event due to the impact of the storm Daniel. How did the municipality respond, and what can attendees expect this year?
Sakkas: Last year was indeed tough; the storm caused substantial damage. However, we rallied together, and with the community’s support, we turned it around successfully. This year, we’re excited to introduce the central theme “What is xoxoxo doing on the tiles,” which promises to bring even more magic and creativity to our festivities. We’ve worked hard to ensure this event will be safer and more enjoyable for all.
Editor: That sounds magical indeed! The Mill of the Elves has really transformed into a significant event for Trikala. In your opinion, how do such events contribute to the city’s identity and economy?
Sakkas: They’re vital! Events like this not only celebrate our cultural heritage but also boost local tourism and economy. They create a sense of community and belonging among residents while attracting visitors to experience the charm of Trikala. It’s a win-win.
Editor: As we wrap up, what’s the long-term vision for Trikala? How do you see the city evolving in the next few years?
Sakkas: My vision is for Trikala to be a model of sustainability and innovation. We want to enhance our infrastructure while preserving our rich history and culture. By leveraging technology and promoting community engagement, I believe we can make Trikala a leader in urban development for the region.
Editor: Thank you, Mr. Sakkas. Your insights are incredibly valuable and inspiring. We wish you the best of luck with the upcoming events and initiatives in Trikala!
Sakkas: Thank you! It’s been a pleasure speaking with you. I look forward to sharing more about our progress in the future.
