Almost 2 billion dollars will be invested in the Miami International Airport, which plans a luxury hotel and a new parking area.

In this sense, new and better amenities are planned for 2026 in one of the busiest terminals in the entire United States.

Included are modernization of the vertical transportation system, which includes elevators, stairs and mechanical mats.

With the aim of improving its facilities and services, roof repairs and the installation of solar panels are being carried out.

In addition, work is underway to reactivate the Skytrain, the automatic train that connects American Airlines Terminal D, a service suspended in September due to damage to the concrete structure.

In fact, the mayor of Miami-Dade planned these final repairs for March and the Skytrain should be back in operation in the spring.

It is intended to undertake all these works without affecting the operation of the airport, according to Ralph Cuité, director of MIA.

“We are the number two airport in the US in international passenger volume, and the eighth in total passengers. In the world, we occupy 14th place in volume of national passengers and 23rd in international passengers,” he explained to Diario de las Américas.

Work is underway on the renovation of the 447 bathrooms in the terminal. According to this source, 33 bathrooms have been renovated, 50 are in process and 141 are being designed with the aim of modernizing them next month.
