The Minister of Mines and Energy, Andrés Camacho, announced that they have monitored the problems of drinking water supply in Colombia.

Given the country’s energy situation, the head of the portfolio assured that there are no “imminent risks in the national territory” of suffering a blackout. In fact, he explained that energy generation with water has been covered by thermal energy, coal, mines and gas.

However, it is necessary for the population to save energy and water. Taking into account that in the coming weeks, the rains will not have the level expected by environmental authorities.

In fact, the lack of precipitation was not what was estimated for March 2024 either. “We expected to have average rainfall during the month of March. “That was higher for the same time of year, but the average was lower due to an atmospheric oscillation that passed through the country.” This was announced by the Minister of the Environment, Susana Muhamad, to the media.

In addition, he assured that, according to the forecasts of the Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies (Ideam), the rainy season began in April, but the heaviest rains will be recorded at the end of the month.

For this reason, additional measures will be implemented in order to prevent unfavorable circumstances related to water resources and energy. Likewise, the portfolio manager indicated that we cannot let our guard down. Because, although there is precipitation, the El Niño phenomenon still remains.

The minister indicated that there is no longer a red alert for fires in the country. But there is a red level alert due to landslides and sudden flows due to the rainy season. There are almost 150 municipalities in Colombia that are at risk.

“The call is not to let our guard down.” The director of the Administrative Department of the Presidency of the Republic (Dapre), Laura Sarabia, insisted through X (formerly Twitter).
