According to the WHO, problems related to mental health could cause the next great pandemic.
With the support of techniques such as mindfulness, you can combat stress levels, anxiety and even decrease depression levels.
World Relaxation Day is commemorated every August 15.

Today’s world is characterized by permanent acceleration and one of its consequences is a tendency to anxiety and stress. In fact, it is one of the reasons why most workers tend to develop the Burnout syndrome. For this type of case and in general for any person, it is useful to apply mindfulness.

Within its general description it consists of achieving full consciousness. It is also dedicated to maintaining internal tranquility so that it can be projected to others. It is by no means a medical treatment but it can be applied at any time as a tool to improve the mental health.

About, Kimberly Gallienwho is a social worker at the Hospital Houston Methodist, states that anyone can benefit from meditation. Although, as with other types of exercises, the ideal is to do it in the indicated way and with professional support.

What are the benefits of mindfulness?

• Release stress daily.
• Improves mood.
• Reduces anxiety.
• Reduces symptoms of depression.

“Meditation really allows you to re-center and clear your mind of negative thoughts or feelings of doubt, so it can help tremendously with anxiety and depression.”

Tips to start meditating

1. Start a guided meditation

“Some people can meditate without anything, but most use guided meditations. This frees you from homework because you just have to listen and be present in the moment.”

There are plenty of apps that offer guided meditations, some for a fee. You can also find guided meditations through videos or podcasts.

2. Consider what kinds of thoughts benefit you the most

We are all looking for different things, so it is important to start by determining what it is that you want to get out of meditation. Don’t worry, there are plenty of options, including guided meditations for sleep, energy, happiness, and much more.

3. Keep it short and build from there

While you may be tempted to dive right into a 30-minute meditation, Gallien recommends starting with one that’s just five minutes or so. You may even find out what you want more of after you’re done, and that can be motivation to try to meditate longer next time.

4. Create the right environment

While you meditate, you will need a space that does not offer distractions, such as your bedroom or a patio. But it can be inside your car before going to work. Any place that is quiet and does not divert your attention works.

5. Keep trying

Don’t worry if you don’t finish your meditation. Gallien stresses that you shouldn’t take this as a sign that meditation isn’t for you.
