DIG/ The Minister of Mines, Hervé Patrick Opiangah, had, on Friday October 13, 2023, an important working session with the president of the Gabon Mining Union (Umiga), Thomas Pucheu.

The industrialist came to take stock with the minister of the progress obtained with his predecessors at the head of the Mines Department. But also current projects.

According to its president, Umiga, which brings together all mining operators in Gabon, aims to develop this sector, by bringing in other partners and investors, as is the case in iron mining.

“Umiga is a force of proposal, which has always supported the government in the management of issues linked to mining”, indicated Thomas Pucheu.

Minister Hervé Patrick Opiangah reaffirmed the ambition of the transitional government in the mining sector. Which is to improve transparency, good governance and respect for the law for win-win partnerships.

For the government member, the time has come to look at certain agreements signed with partners, in order to amend provisions which appear legally unsuitable.

Hervé Patrick Opiangha reassured the president of Umiga the establishment of a permanent framework for reflection with Mines technicians, with a view to achieving the objectives of transparency, ethics and inclusion.
