BRASILIA (Reuters) – The federal government launches on Thursday the ordinance with the guidelines and goals of the new version of the Minha Casa, Minha Vida program, including the cost of 170,000 reais per unit for tier 1, aimed at low-income families family up to 2,640 reais, and the determination to hire at least 145,000 homes this year with the Union Budget.

According to the Minister of Cities, Jader Filho, the ordinance will also bring the target of 2 million units to be contracted by 2026, in all income brackets, a number that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva himself questioned during the meeting of the 100 days of government, last Monday.

“I want to say that I am quite confident, I think we will even overtake,” the minister told Reuters. “I was yesterday (Tuesday) at Abrainc (Brazilian Association of Developers) and today (Wednesday) at CBIC (Brazilian Chamber of the Construction Industry) and I saw very enthusiastic businessmen.

The goal of 2 million homes, even at the president’s request, also includes units for higher income brackets, a charge that, according to Lula, he has received. At the 100-day government meeting, the president asked that people with family incomes of up to four minimum wages be included, even though priority was maintained for tier 1.

According to Jader Filho, part of the funding will be via the Union Budget — concentrated in the lowest bracket — and financing via FGTS, for all brackets. The minister’s expectation is, for this year, to reach 450,000 units contracted, compared to a total of 360,000 in 2022.
