The minister of Communication Secretariat of the Presidency (If with), Paulo Pimentastated this Monday, 20th, in conversation with journalists, that the elected president of Argentina, Javier Miley“gratuitously” offended the president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) during the presidential campaign and demanded an apology from Milei to begin the relationship between the two representatives. The statement was made at Palácio do Planalto when the minister was asked about the possibility of Lula calling to congratulate the candidate elected in the neighboring country. “I wouldn’t care. Only after he called me to apologize. He gratuitously offended President Lula, it is up to him, in a gesture as president-elect, to call to apologize. After that happened, I would think about the possibility of talking”, said Pimenta. During the campaign, Milei called Lula a “communist”, “corrupt”, and said he would not meet with the head of the Brazilian Executive if he were elected. The then candidate also accused the Brazilian president of interfering in the Argentine elections.

The candidate from the A Liberdade Avança coalition achieved 55% of the valid votes against 45% for the Peronist representative, Sérgio Massa. The election, one of the most important in Argentina’s history and marked by polarization, was very fierce, with the two candidates competing vote by vote. The polls carried out and released before the election showed contradictory scenarios: sometimes with Milei in the lead, sometimes with Massa ahead. Argentines had to choose between the continuation of the political system that has ruled the country for years and a radical change that had never been tested.
