(Israel) – Following a day of widespread protests across the country, Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir expressed satisfaction with the overall conduct during the demonstrations. However, he emphasized the need for improvement in certain areas, stating that he did not personally witness any instances of police violence.
Minister Ben Gvir addressed the ongoing protests against legal reform in closed conversations on Tuesday evening. He defended the use of reasonable force against lawbreakers who allegedly attacked police officers, broke the law, and obstructed emergency vehicles and ambulances from reaching hospitals.
“I did not see police violence today,” Ben Gvir stated during the conversations. He affirmed the importance of maintaining law and order while handling the protests.
Despite the protests in the Tel Aviv area being under the jurisdiction of Superintendent Avshi Peled, there have been reports of Superintendent Ami Ashad, who was removed from his position, attempting to influence the police headquarters’ policy until the end of his term.
In regards to the overall police activity during the demonstrations, Minister Ben Gvir expressed his satisfaction with the conduct in most locations. However, he acknowledged the need for improvement in certain areas.
As the protests continue to garner attention, thousands of demonstrators have been arrested and taken in for questioning. The situation remains tense as both protesters and law enforcement maintain their positions.
