The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Filipe Zau, lamented, this Monday, the death of the mentor and founder of the traditional dance group Katyavala from Bailundo municipality, Huambo province, Júlia Nangueve, who died last Friday (05).

In a condolence note sent to ANGOP, the minister states that it was with sadness that he learned of the physical passing away, due to illness, of the woman who gave life, in 2000, to the iconic traditional dance group that preserves the country’s intangible and traditional heritage, which is the Olundongo style dance.

The government official highlighted the dynamism of “Aunt Júlia”, affectionately known in the Katyavala group, who became a great reference in this region of the country and beyond, with participations of recognized merit in several events, with emphasis on the National Festival of Culture ( FENACULT 2014), carnival parades in the province of Huambo, Presidential receptions and others of great relevance.

According to the minister, the willpower of the deceased, dedication and general commitment of the group, led to the highest distinction of national Culture, when it was awarded the National Prize for Culture and Arts.

In turn, the King of Bailundo, Tchongolola Tchongonga, stated that Júlia Nangueve was a woman who gave much of her knowledge, especially in 2002, with the conquest of peace, in the process of rescuing, preserving, valuing and disseminating the habits and customs of the population of this region of the Central Plateau of Angola.

The Katyavala traditional dance group, according to Rei do Bailundo, only worked thanks to the resilience of Júlia Ngueve, who was a woman with well-defined goals.

With his position in the Katyavala group, adds the sovereign, many cultural values ​​lost from 1975 to 2000 were rescued, such as the traditional dance Olissemba, Olondongo, Onhatcha, Okatita, Ossawaya, Otchianda, Okamussa, Otchissossi, Otchitiku and Nawassindikile, raising , in this way, the culture of this region.

Júlia Ngueve was born on January 7, 1962, in the municipality of Mungo, province of Huambo, and died at the age of 61, victim of a prolonged illness.

The desire to preserve the intangible heritage of national culture, especially the Olundongo dance, together with other friends, created, in 2000, the Katyavala dance group to animate various events. ZZN/ALH
