When Bahraini Minister of Labor Jameel Humaidan visited various construction sites

Manama: Bahrain’s Minister of Labor Jameel Humaidan visited various construction sites yesterday in view of the introduction of work restrictions after noon in the months of July and August. Top officials of the Ministry of Labor also participated in the lightning visit made by the minister without warning. The Minister inquired about the information from the workers and site supervisors.

The minister explained to them the reason why they were asked to stop work from 12 noon to 4 o’clock when the heat becomes intense. The Minister said that this time also there is merit in the cooperation of the majority of employers. The Ministry of Labor always gives priority to the safety of workers. In the last few years, the Ministry has implemented several security related measures. The Minister said that the Ministry will always be concerned about the workers who play a vital role in the growth of the country and is thankful to all those who are cooperating with it.

Labor Ministry officials stated that out of 6608 inspections conducted so far, action has been taken against 16 establishments. Only 27 workers were working in these 16 establishments during the ban. This is very less compared to previous years. The ministry has suggested not to work outside between 12 noon and 4 pm to protect our body from the intense heat.

At the same time, the authorities are also surprised by the ignorance regarding this regulation. Many have assumed that this law is only applicable to construction sites. In fact, the ministry said this applies to anyone working outside who is exposed to the sun. The authorities have requested that the workers who are exposed to sunburn should stay away from work between 12 noon and 4 pm during these two months.

Allowing workers to rest during the harsh summers can increase productivity and improve worker health. The Ministry also informed that the majority of employers in the country have cooperated with this in previous years.
