O Minister of Labor and Employment, Luiz Marinhoruled out the return of union tax mandatory. The statement was made during a session at Chamber of Deputies, in which he was called to explain speeches defending the creation of a new union collaboration, but with values and rules negotiated in the assembly. Parliamentarians wanted to know what the chances were of the federal government resuming the mandatory union tax, which became optional with the Labor Reform in 2017. To the deputies, Marinho denied returning the charge. “There is no proposal for a union tax to return, at least from the Ministry of Labor and President Lula’s government. It is important to remember that, when we talk about a strong union, we are talking about creating a welcoming environment for negotiation, where the union is strong to negotiate”, explained the minister. Marinho cited data that points to a 98% drop in union contribution collection since the changes in the labor reform. The minister said that the government intends to send a bill to organize labor relations.
