Minister of State for Culture Claudia Roth (Greens) paid tribute to the life and work of Eva-Maria Hagen. “With Eva-Maria Hagen we are losing a great, versatile and courageous artist whose biography reflects German-German history – she made history with her art,” it said in a statement on Friday. The actress, singer and author Eva-Maria Hagen died in Hamburg on August 16 at the age of 87, as the management announced on behalf of the family on Friday.
“Second World War and expulsion, Stasi surveillance and a ban on working – all of this has shaped Eva-Maria Hagen’s eventful life. After courageously opposing the SED regime and finally having to leave the GDR, she started all over again in West Germany and showed once again that she was a unique all-rounder as an actress and singer, author and painter,” says Roth.
