Unification Minister Kim Young-ho emphasized on the 21st, “We must never forget our citizens detained in North Korea.”

Minister Kim said in an encouraging speech at the ‘North Korea Christian Association year-end gathering’ held at Far East Broadcasting Station in Mapo-gu, Seoul this morning, “The families of six detainees, including missionaries Kim Jeong-wook, Kim Guk-ki, and Choi Chun-gil, are in tears as they celebrate the year-end and New Year holidays, which should have been warmly welcomed, without even knowing whether they are alive or dead. “I’m sending it,” he said.

He appealed, “Please pray together so that the six detainees and all abduction victims who are unable to return can return to their families as soon as possible.”

He continued, “The government will continue to make efforts to confirm the fate and repatriation of those detained under the firm principle of protecting its citizens.”

Minister Kim also said that the number of North Korean defectors who have settled in our society exceeds 34,000, and reiterated his intention to work hard to ensure their stable settlement.

He said, “Leaving one’s hometown is never easy. “The process of starting all over again in an unfamiliar place will be a scary and arduous path,” he said. “The government will make great efforts to create an ecosystem for North Korean defectors to settle down.”

He went on to ask for active interest and cooperation in resolving the issues of abductees, detainees, and North Korean defectors, saying, “The government’s efforts are important to resolve the issue of settling North Korean defectors, but it is also a task that churches, businesses, and our entire society must work together to do.”
