The Minister of Industry Roland Lescure announced on Saturday August 12 that he was giving up going to the summer days of Europe Ecologie-Les Verts (EELV) because of the presence of the rapper Médine. The artist released on Thursday a message on X (formerly Twitter) that the member of the government deems “anti-Semitic nature”.

“His latest tweet about Rachel Khan is unambiguously anti-Semitic in nature. So only one decision had to be made: not to go.he says in a interview at Parisian, about this message addressed to the artist and essayist Rachel Khan, Jewish and granddaughter of a deportee. The rapper called this one “resKHANpee”described her as a person “drifting among the social traitors and literally eating at the table of the extreme right”.

He then posted a second post in which he apologized. ” It’s too easy. He plays with limits, he plays with ambiguity, then, finally, he backtracks.”, decides the minister. Keen on debates with opponents of macronism, Roland Lescure also criticizes the position of the national secretary of environmentalists, Marine Tondelier, who maintained the rapper’s invitation to a debate on August 24 in Le Havre entitled “the strength of culture against the culture of strength”.

“What leads me to cancel my presence is precisely that Marine Tondelier, who calls herself the leader of a Republican party, has decided, despite this tweet, to maintain her invitation”he explains. “Me, I am ready to speak with everyone provided that we respect the law and minimum decency”, adds the minister. Also invited, former Prime Minister Édouard Philippe, mayor of Le Havre, did not take a position.

“Unworthy invitation”

Before him, another member of the executive, Clément Beaune, Minister of Transport, asked La France insoumise (LFI) and EELV on Friday to distance themselves from the star guest of their next summer universities.

“I will always fight the extreme right. You are precisely playing the game with this unworthy invitation »said Clément Beaune to the address of LFI and the leader of the environmentalist party, Marine Tondelier. “It’s time to come to your senses”added the minister on X (Twitter), qualifying as« abject » one of the rapper’s last messages on the same network.

Accused by the Licra of“too recurrent ambiguities” on anti-Semitism, the Greens insist on the importance of maintaining dialogue with everyone. “The question of the fight against intolerance (…) inevitably involves people who did not know and who open their eyes, who deconstruct themselves, become aware, who recognize past mistakes, who move forward »argued Ms. Tondelier on Friday with Agence France-Presse, ensuring that she had “Fairly frank exchanges” with the rapper.

The one who grew up in Le Havre has always denied being anti-Semitic or having links with Islamism, without going back on his most criticized gestures or statements. In one of his last interviews, with the anti-capitalist magazine Ballast dated July 15the artist opposes all forms of discrimination, calling for “to social justice”the fight against ” the extreme right “ and the end of “mechanisms of oppression that affect both LGBT populations, racialized people, feminists”.
