Minister of Higher Education RS Rajakannapan Holds Consultation Meeting with University Officials

After recently taking charge as Minister of Higher Education and Backward Welfare, RS Rajakannapan wasted no time in getting down to business. He conducted a consultation meeting with the registrars of the universities under the control of the higher education department and other officials today at the Tamil Nadu State Higher Education Council meeting hall.

The meeting, held on December 27th, 2023, aimed to examine the activities of the higher education department. The welcome speech was delivered by A. Ramasamy, the Vice President of the Tamil Nadu State Council of Higher Education. A. Karthik, the Principal Secretary of Higher Education, presided over the study meeting and briefed the minister in detail about the departmental activities.

During the meeting, the university registrars had the opportunity to describe the activities of their respective universities and present their demands to the minister.

In his keynote address, Minister RS Rajakannapan highlighted the various schemes brought by the government to improve the welfare of students. These include the tuition fee concession scheme for first-generation graduate students, the Naan Mootuvan scheme, the innovation girl scheme, 7.5 percent reservation in engineering colleges and the fee concession scheme, as well as the Prime Minister’s general fee concession scheme. He also emphasized the need for effective implementation of programs such as the financial aid scheme for students from the relief fund.

Furthermore, the Minister of Higher Education stressed the importance of women’s education and the need to make the management of higher education institutions more effective. He also expressed his desire to see universities in Tamil Nadu improved to world standards and an increase in student enrollment across all subjects, including various technical education disciplines.

The consultation meeting served as an opportunity for the Minister of Higher Education to engage directly with university officials and gain a better understanding of the current state of higher education in Tamil Nadu. It also provided a platform for the exchange of ideas and the identification of priorities for the future development of the higher education system.
