Minister Vladimir Malinov will participate in two energy forums in Thessaloniki

Acting Minister of Energy Vladimir Malinov will participate in two energy forums that will be held in Thessaloniki, Greece, the press center of the Ministry of Energy announced, BTA reported.

The first – the eighth edition of the “Energy Forum for Southeast Europe” is today. It is organized by the American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Atlantic Council. The meeting will give a platform to politicians, representatives of regulatory bodies, financiers, scientists. Minister Malinov will speak at a round table on the topic “Energy cooperation in South-Eastern Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean region: A turning point for the EU’s energy security”.

On September 8, again in Thessaloniki, Minister Malinov will take part in the second “Dialogue on the Energy of the Future of Europe in the Middle East and North Africa (MEFED) – focus on energy infrastructure”. The event will be hosted by Theodoros Skilakakis, Minister of the Environment and of Energy of the Hellenic Republic, and Dr. Robert Habek, Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister of Economy and Climate Action of the Federal Republic of Germany.The program focuses on the development of interregional energy infrastructure to accelerate the energy transition.

Within the framework of the second conference, a bilateral meeting between Minister Malinov and Dr. Habek is planned, during which a Joint Declaration on cooperation in the field of energy and climate action will be signed between the Ministry of Energy of Bulgaria and the Federal Ministry of Economy and Climate Action of Germany, added the energy department. Minister Malinov will also talk with his colleague Minister Skilakakis, with whom they will discuss issues of mutual interest for the development of Bulgarian-Greek relations in the energy sector. A bilateral meeting with Abdullah Ahmed Balalaa – Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Energy and Sustainability of the United Arab Emirates is also planned.

BTA recalls that during one of the last visits of the Acting Minister of Energy Vladimir Malinov to Greece, he informed that the liquefied gas terminal in Alexandroupolis will be put into operation on October 1. “After the technical defect in connecting the liquefied natural gas regasification platform to Alexandroupolis has been removed, the terminal will be put into operation on October 1. All licensing procedures have already been completed,” he explained.

The project is of strategic importance, as it will provide an important corridor for the supply of liquefied natural gas from alternative sources for the entire region, the Ministry of Energy pointed out at the time. In addition, the Bulgarian gas transmission operator “Bulgartransgaz” is a shareholder in the terminal with 20 percent.

BTA also recalls that on September 1, acting Minister of Energy Vladimir Malinov went on working visits to the Republic of Korea and Japan. Within the framework of the visit to Seoul, a Memorandum on cooperation in the field of energy was signed by the energy ministers of Bulgaria and the Republic of Korea. The document will promote cooperation between companies from the two countries in the implementation of new investments in the production of energy from renewable sources, as well as in the construction of energy storage facilities.

In Tokyo, Acting Minister Malinov signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of energy between Bulgaria and Japan. Through it, the two countries will explore the possibilities for joint initiatives to exchange expertise in the fields of green technologies, natural gas, nuclear energy and the development of renewable and low-carbon hydrogen technologies.
