Confrontation at the cabinet meeting today (Sunday) between several ministers and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, a few days before the passing of the budget. According to the quotes published in ‘Khan Haod’, the anger towards Minister Smotrich is increasing.
At the meeting, Tourism Minister Haim Katz referred to the planned cuts in the Ministry of Finance in his office and addressed the Prime Minister personally: “Netanyahu, it’s a waste of time, it won’t pass.” When he actually says he won’t let the cut go through.
After that, Finance Minister Smotrich goes on the attack for his part, but towards another minister, Communications Minister Shlomo Karai: “You made a media spin on me about the Settlements Law. Be a great sage in your office, not mine,” he attacked.
Karai responds to him and says: “We don’t need your moral preaching. Study the material before you talk to me. We agreed together with Yariv Levin on changes to the Settlements Law. Don’t change the reality.”
In response, Smotrich denies, and goes on to attack the housing minister from “Torah Judaism”: “You don’t give me anything in housing, you just complain all the time, I manage the treasury.” Karai turns to Netanyahu and asks: “How is it possible to behave like this on the eve of the budget?”.
Prime Minister Netanyahu, who according to the quotes was mostly silent, reacted at the end and said in response to Karai’s words: “We need to come to an understanding, we will sit separately to talk.” If Netanyahu fails to calm things down, it seems that tensions will only increase on the way to passing the budget.
