Thiruvananthapuram ∙ Minister V. Shivankutty’s lightning visit to the labor camp where guest workers are crowded on Chala Pradhana street. The Minister instructed the Labor Commissioner to appoint special teams to inspect the labor camps across the state. Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Council ordered to close the camp as it was found to be illegal. Thiruvananthapuram Mayor Arya Rajendran, Labor Commissioner K. Vasuki IAS, Additional Labor Commissioner (Enforcement) K.M. Sunil and other officials were with the minister.

A team comprising the minister inspected each floor of the three-storey building. Interacted with guest workers present there. The Municipal Corporation directed to close down the illegal labor camp and asked the Superintending Engineer to demolish any illegal construction in the building. It has also been directed to check whether unlicensed shops are operating in the building.

The Labor Commissionerate will issue a notice to the contractor under the Interstate Migrant Workmen Act-1979 regarding accommodation of guest workers. The Labor Commissionerate also directed the contractor to take immediate action to relocate the guest workers.
